Why?
This class offers training in a core set of design principals so that participants will be able to, upon completion of course, design their own environments and build increasingly self reliant, eco-friendly, human habitats. With the ultimate goal of reducing society's reliance on large centralized industrial systems of production and distribution.

What?
Sustainable Living offers Participants from all backgrounds and living arrangements an opportunity to discover and develop skills applying Permaculture practice to site planning, design and construction of structures using both natural and recycable materials locally available. Upon completion of the course, skills learned can be applied to a wide range of possibilities within their own individual or group applications.

Permaculture Demonstration Homestead located On property on Wilmington Island at Vickery Drive.

Sliding scale from $65-$85 Saturday

Introduction to Permaculture
(Alternative Building with Natural and Recycled Materails)
Course Description
The objective of this course is to guideParticipants through a land use site plan for this location focusing on the specific Permaculture application of Patterns/zones/links and connections/layers and stacking as applied to the design and construction of a new storage structure. Participants will also be invited apply these principles to an additional second existing storage structure as part the course to be offered at a future date.
Participants will identify resources on site, harvest and process material from the site while integrating reusable /recycled materials for construction of a new storage building.
Participant will be directly involved in applications of design through hands on applications of Alternative building practices using Earth floor/Earth plasters/Cobb wall construction, Wooden Pallet construction for load bearing walls, using Palm and Bamboo as exterior wall covering and base for earth plasters and door and window construction, Bamboo/Thatched Roof covering.
