Bio

Kelly has been an organic gardener/farmer in Savannah since 1985. She earned her Permaculture Design Certificate in 2003, and achieved Master Gardener in 2005. She has worked as a Horticulture Therapist with a substance abuse recovery program for the homeless, creating a working vegetable garden and orchard, and with elderly folk in nursing and assisted living homes. She owned a successful gardening business, Organically Yours, for over seven years, using organic techniques for maintenance, design & installation of vegetable gardens and perennial food production in the landscape. In March of 2009 Kelly founded the Savannah Urban Garden Alliance (SUGA) to create and sustain community gardens, provide educational programming to nurture new gardeners and to bring current and sustainable food system awareness events to the Savannah community. SUGA has been instrumental in organizing and creating four thriving urban gardens. An avid food gardener at home, she keeps chickens for eggs, uses several methods of composting, grows citrus, peaches, pears, apples, figs, berries… and catches rainwater to store in ponds. Her goal is to share this knowledge with others to facilitate a closer connection to the natural world that sustains us.
